Whirlwind of Cities
Early October we began a whirlwind of stops. Four cities in 10 days then finally heading south.
It went like this: NYC, October 5-9 (staying at 2 different places), Philly October 9-11, West, Virginia October 11-13, D.C. October 13-15, then down to North Carolina where the whirlwind continued, but that’s for another post.
Our time in all of these places was spent taking in amazing art, cooking, getting reacquainted or newly acquainted with some amazing people. At the end of it, we were a little dizzy and in need of some rest, but with full hearts and smiles on our faces.

Rene reconnected with long time friends. Adrian and Rene have known each other since college in St. Olaf.
Adrian was in the art department together in college. He now resides in the East Village and is still heavily involved in the art scene (thanks in part to his rent controlled apartment which he has lived in for almost 30+ years)
Noodle place across the street from Adrian’s apartment (which he had never been to! In part because there are about a gajillion delicious options to choose from within a stone’s throw.

The building the museum is in adds so much to the experience. The simple yet very intentional layout, lighting, materials and traffic flow is incredible.
one of the old scool lower east side dive bars remaining (with some of the best Filipino food around. The owner’s mom cooks it all. The glass door was shattered in a hurricane. The owner decided to keep it as is, as a tribute to what the bar has been through.
Southeast asian food and some of the best food I’ve had ever. A must visit if you’re in the area.

Thank you for hosting us Robin!
Robin is an amazing cook and instructed us on where to go for neighborhood shopping. The amount of amazing fresh and affordable groceries is unparalleled. We made goat leg with ahi Amarillo, goat horn peppers, pineapple with feta cheese.
Mel is another art department friend of Rene’s from college.
